Deputy President David Mabuza, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Task Team in response to matters raised by Traditional Leaders, will on Thursday, 10 March 2022 hold a dialogue with Traditional and Khoi-San leaders. This dialogue is part of the response to the 6th Opening Address of the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders that took place last month.
Traditionally, the Opening of the National House of Traditional leaders is followed by a debate. This year the debate will be held in the format of a dialogue, which will be attended by all the Ministers who have been appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to serve on the Inter-Ministerial Task Team to respond to the matters raised by Traditional and Khoi-San leaders.
The National House of Traditional Leaders was established in line with the Constitutional provision, to represent traditional leadership and their communities at national level. It comprises of traditional leaders who are delegates from the Provincial Houses of Traditional Leaders of South Africa.
This dialogue will be based on four pillars, namely; land ownership, tenure rights and economic development; economic development in rural communitiues; social cohesion and nation building; policy and legislation on powers and functions of traditional leaders in issues of development; and institutional capacity and support to the institution in rendering services to respective communities.
The Deputy President will be joined by Members of the Inter-Ministerial Task Team as well as senior government officials.
