Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule hands over a new handwashing station at Chayaza Secondary School in Bushbuckridge, 12 Oct

The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr. Makgabo Reginah Mhaule will join hands with Woolworths Foundation and UNICEF South Africa to handover a new handwashing station at Chayaza Secondary School in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga province on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.

 

The handwashing facility is funded by Woolworths Foundation through UNICEF South Africa and will improve hand hygiene for the more than 1,200 learners and 50 educational staff at the school. This is the newest of 24 handwashing stations that Woolworths Foundation and UNICEF South Africa have installed in 17  schools across Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga provinces since the outbreak of COVID-19. The facilities have improved access to handwashing for some 11,000 learners and educational staff.

 

Global Handwashing Day, marked on 15 October, is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of and washing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. The 2021 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together.”
