MOPANI - The Deputy Minister of Police Mr Cassel Mathale (MP) today on Monday, 13 February 2023 led the school safety programme at Maake policing precinct in Mopani District, Limpopo.
The Deputy Minister was accompanied by Mopani District Commissioner, Major General Willy Mashava, SAPS Maake Station Commander, Colonel Tinyiko Maluleke and her team comprising VISPOL Commander, Lieutenant Colonel HS Shitolo, communication officer Sergeant Patricia Shikwambana, Mopani District Communication officer Constable Khomotso Hlokwe as well as VISPOL members.
Today's programme was taken to Calais and Lepono Secondary Schools and it was supported by Ward Committee Mangena Ndala, Councillor Bishop Raganya, Councillor Ruben Maakamela representing the Mayor of Maruleng Local Municipality,SGB, Quality Learning and Teaching Committee ( QLTC) and School Management Committee (CMC).
The purpose of the campaign was to address problems that emanated and affected the previous matric results at both schools.
The Deputy Minister therefore took it upon himself to intervene and help where possible to improve the quality of the matric results downgraded by bad behaviour, lack of cooperation between learners and teachers.
The other challenges that were highlighted include; substance and alcohol abuse, dangerous weapons and taverns that operate beyond normal hours.
In his address, the Deputy Minister promised that the law will take its course especially to the taverns that run for 24 hours. He also indicated the possibility of building a new station around the policing precinct and that the plan is at an advanced stage.
In conclusion, the Deputy Minister congratulated Lepono secondary school for obtaining a 95,5 % matric results and position 1 in the circuit.
