In a significant step towards enhancing child protection efforts in Sierra Leone, Deputy Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs Mr Hindowa Bindi today signed a performance contract with the National Commission for Children (NCC). The signing occurred at the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, bringing together key figures from both institutions to formalize their collaborative commitment.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Director of Children’s Protection, Mr Charles Vandy, who introduced the key participants, including Mr Ibrahim Kamara, Director of Planning Committee; Mrs Aminata Yeama Sannoh, Permanent Secretary; Mr Joseph Sunday Sinah, Chief Director; Mrs Joyce Weyah Tejan-Kella, NCC Commissioner; and Mr Mustapha Sheku, NCC Deputy Commissioner.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Vandy highlighted the strategic plans and policies developed by the Ministry to meet its objectives. Commissioner Tejan-Kella then addressed the importance of the performance contract, emphasizing that it aligns with the NCC
‘s strategic plan and core mandate. She expressed optimism about the contract’s development and implementation, which outlines both parties’ roles and responsibilities.

Deputy Minister Bindi acknowledged the importance of the performance contract in addressing child protection issues nationwide. He emphasized that the collaboration between the Ministry and the NCC is crucial for successfully executing child protection strategies. “This contract represents a significant approach to improving child welfare in Sierra Leone,” he said. “We will continue to work closely with the NCC and other agencies to combat domestic violence and support vulnerable children.”

Mrs. Aminata Sannoh, Permanent Secretary, concluded the meeting by firmly committing to maintaining a robust working relationship with the NCC. She reassured the audience that the Ministry would uphold the principles of the contract and collaborate effectively with the commission moving forward.
