Deputy Minister Sotyu hands-over a waste collection compactor truck to Matjhabeng Local Municipality ahead of Presidential Imbizo
The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Makhotso Sotyu, will hand-over a waste collection compactor truck to the Matjhabeng Local Municipality on Thursday, 07 April 2022, at the Municipal Town Hall in Welkom.
The Deputy Minister’s visit in the province forms part of activities linked to the Presidential Imbizo on Saturday in Mangaung.
The intervention by the Deputy Minister emanates from her 2019 visit to Matjhabeng Local Municipality where she was made aware of the waste management challenges faced by the municipality, especially waste collection, recycling and landfill site management.
The handing over of a waste compactor truck to the Matjhabeng Local Municipality is part of improving waste collection services, especially in the un-serviced areas of the Free State. The hand-over would be preceded by a clean-up campaign around Welkom’s city centre to promote educational waste awareness, discourage littering and illegal dumping in open spaces.
