Transport Deputy Minister Mangcu commemorates International Level Crossing Day in Northern Cape
The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR), under the stewardship of Transport Deputy Minister, Mr Lisa Mangcu, will be commemorating the International Level Crossing Day (ILCAD) in Ulco, Northern Cape on Thursday, 15 June 2023.
The global event is held annually in June to raise awareness about level crossing safety. The campaign is led by the International Union of Railways (UIC), a worldwide railway organisation, with support from railway communities from 28 countries across the globe.
The commemoration will be coordinated in collaboration with Traxtion and AfriSam, who operate a private siding line that connects to the Transnet line. The main crossing in Ulco is utilized by both pedestrians, which includes school children, and motorists making it a busy intersection that poses potential risks in terms of level crossing incidents.
Members of the media are invited to join the Deputy Minister for the commemoration and a walkabout at the siding, followed by an inspection.
