NORTHERN CAPE – The induction of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) safety participants was held today, 13 May 2022 in Upington.

The event was attended by the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Mme Nomandla Bloem who also delivered the key note address.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Koliswa Otola accompanied by members of the Provincial Management, District Commissioners, Station Commanders and Social Crime Coordinators were also in attendance.

In her address, Maj Gen Otola specifically alluded to the fact that Gender Based Violence and Femicide is a great challenge not only in this province but the country at large.

She appreciated the extra pair of hands that will assist the police in the fight against GBV at different stations.

The department inducted 72 safety participants, who will be placed at different police station throughout the province.

They will work directly with the Social Crime Prevention Coordinators to conduct programmes and projects, raising awareness on social ills and crimes that influence Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
