Delft boasts two new footways

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has recently completed the construction of two new footways on both sides of Baleles Street in Delft.

The work was implemented over a period of two months and completed on 22 February 2022.

‘The works are part of routine maintenance and are in keeping with our commitment to improving the safety of all who use our road networks, be it commuters or pedestrians. This area is a popular minibus-taxi node and Delft Technical High School is also in the vicinity. Thus, there is a lot of foot traffic and therefore many pedestrians will benefit from the safe footways without fear of being in the way of fast moving vehicles,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The work included the construction of paved sidewalks on both sides of Baleles Road, opposite the Delft Technical High School and cleaning the site and catchpits

‘I appeal to residents to please comply with the road signs and to look after this area and keep it clean at all times,’ said Councillor Quintas.
