Kwa-zulu natal: Following another severe traffic accident on the N2 highway, involving a collision between a truck and a car in Mandeni, Siboniso Duma, KwaZulu-Natal's Transport and Human Settlements MEC, has sent a specialized team from the Road Traffic Inspectorate to the scene. The accident, which occurred on Wednesday at the same location as a deadly incident last Friday, claimed the life of the driver of the light motor vehicle, who was pronounced dead on the scene. According to South African Government News Agency, MEC Siboniso Duma has announced a series of commemorative activities including a wreath-laying ceremony at the site of the accident. These events are part of a four-day mourning period dedicated to the victims of both the recent and previous crashes. Duma emphasized the importance of supporting the families of the eight individuals who died in last week's accident, stating that he, along with his team, will be actively involved in the mourning process from the mortuary visits to the burial c eremonies. The response includes not only the wreath-laying ceremony but also comprehensive psycho-social support provided by skilled clinicians to assist those affected during this challenging time. Duma also highlighted the collaborative efforts with local mayors Thobani Shandu and Thabani Mdlalose in organizing the upcoming memorial and mass funeral services. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday morning at eMaRomeni Sports Field, followed by the funeral service on Saturday and a mass funeral on Sunday. Duma praised the community's unity in this difficult time, noting the involvement of senior religious leaders, relatives, and neighbors in supporting the grieving families. This collective approach aims to offer substantial and emotional support to the bereaved and to foster a sense of community resilience in the face of tragedy.
