Dedicated police members respond to reckless driving and confiscate an unlicensed firearm and a stolen vehicle

Police members arrested two suspects aged 35 and 38 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen vehicle in Kuilsrivier.

Members of Flying Squad were busy with routine patrols in Kuilsrivier on Monday, 30 August 2021 when they noticed the driver of a VW Polo driving recklessly. As they approached the vehicle, they tested the registration number, and became suspicious when the result did not correspond with the vehicle in their sights. When the driver of the VW Polo became aware of the patrol vehicle close to them, he tried to evade the police, though lost control.

As soon as the vehicle came to a halt, the driver jumped out pointing a firearm in the direction of the police officers. The members fired gunshots in the direction of the suspects. The two suspects who sustained injuries were arrested and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment after they were found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. Further investigation on the scene members discovered that the vehicle was reported as stolen on a Cape Town Central case.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of a stolen vehicle.
