LIMPOPO – Five suspects aged between 36 and 54 are expected to appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Court today, 17 March 2022 for alleged fraud at Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality.
It is alleged that in 2015, the municipality awarded a R2.7 million tender to River Queen Company to renovate the municipal hall including to fix the air conditioners.
The investigation revealed that the air conditioners were never fixed but the company was paid R1.6 million.
The suspects who include the company Director, former Ward Councillor, former Municipal Project Manager, Municipal Senior Manager for Technical Services and company Quantity Surveyor were arrested by the Hawks joint team (Serious Corruption Investigation and Serious Commercial Crime Investigation) during a takedown operation on Wednesday, 16 March 2022 in Lebowakgomo and Polokwane.
