Colorado in the United States secured the 16th spot in terms of international visitor numbers as a top global tourist destination after a significant downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While overall international arrivals have rebounded, certain states are experiencing a more pronounced resurgence.

Among them is Colorado, which has secured the 16th spot in terms of international visitor numbers.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Colorado welcomed approximately 466,000 overseas visitors in 2023.

While this figure falls short of pre-pandemic levels, it represents a substantial 45.2% increase compared to the previous year.

This growth trajectory is indicative of Colorado increasing appeal to international travelers.

The state allure lies in its diverse landscapes, from the iconic Rocky Mountains to vibrant urban centers like Denver.

Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Colorado for hiking, skiing, and camping, while city dwellers are drawn to its cultural attractions, culinary scene, and thriving arts community.

However, Colorado tourism industry, like its counterparts across the nation, faces challenges.

Strict visa requirements and lengthy customs procedures continue to hinder international travel to the United States.

These obstacles have contributed to a slower recovery for the US tourism sector compared to other global destinations.

Despite these hurdles, international tourism remains a critical economic driver for the United States.

In 2023 alone, the sector generated over $230 billion in exports, supporting millions of jobs.

Colorado, as a key contributor, benefits significantly from the influx of international visitors, who inject millions into the state economy through spending on accommodations, transportation, food, and entertainment.

While New York and Florida retain their top spots as the most visited US states by international tourists, Colorado performance is noteworthy.

With its stunning natural beauty, world-class outdoor activities, and growing reputation as a cultural hub, the state is poised for continued growth in the international tourism market.

As the global travel industry continues to recover, Colorado strategic focus on attracting international visitors could position it as a leading destination in the years to come.
