POLOKWANE – In a concerted effort to fight against theft of cables across the province, a partnership between police and community members resulted in the arrest of three suspects for alleged theft of copper cables in Ga-Magongoa village in the Mashashane policing area outside Seshego yesterday, on 26 January 2022 at about 04:30 in the morning.
The suspects are allegedly a group of criminals that have been tormenting communities in and around this area following several reported cases of theft of copper cables and vandalism.
Police received a tip-off from the community members about the existence of these suspects and quickly reacted. One suspect was found in possession of copper cables to the street value of approximately R3000,00 and a bolt cutter. Further investigations were conducted which led to the arrest two more suspects for attempted theft of cable.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has thanked the community for working with the police in the fight against crime, and urged them to continue sharing information about any suspicious activities by contacting the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police.
The suspects aged between 26 and 30 are expected to appear in Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 28 January 2022 on charges of possession of suspected stolen properties and damage to infrastructure.
