Closure of Clifton First Beach until further notice

As a precautionary measure, visitors are advised that Clifton First Beach is temporarily closed to the public from this evening, Monday 28 March 2022, until further notice.

The temporary closure is due to a sewer pump station failure at Clifton First.

Various City departments have been activated to respond to this incident.

Repairs to the pump station are under way, and residents are advised that there will be some noise during the night while the City is dealing with the incident.

The cause of the failure is under investigation.

A berm has been constructed to prevent wastewater from contaminating the seawater.

Following an assessment of the situation, a decision was taken to close the beach area as a precautionary measure.

Signage has been erected, advising the public of the situation.

We appreciate the public’s cooperation during this time.
