The City’s Macassar housing project, which will eventually accommodate 2 469 beneficiaries, is making steady progress
Construction at the R132 million housing project is taking place in stages. Phase 1 comprised the civil works for 605 erven. It was completed in April 2021 and construction of the houses for Phase 1 is expected to start in March 2023. The civil works for Phase 2 is to be completed in October 2022 and the civil works for Phase 3 is to be completed in June 2023, if all goes according to plan.
‘Close to major transport routes and community facilities, this is another example of the City’s delivery in action of opportunities on well-located suitable pieces of land.
‘Construction of houses is earmarked to start in March next year. I am so pleased to see the good progress which has been made on site. We thank the community and beneficiaries for the support as our projects can’t progress well without their cooperation,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, who visited the site today, 12 September 2022, to check on the progress.
Beneficiaries of all City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and the City’s Housing Needs Register to ensure that housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
