Last night,14 February 2022, Councillor Rob Quintas, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, took to the Milnerton streets to witness the labour of love by the workers resurfacing the southbound stretch of the road along Montague Drive between Drill Avenue and Railway Road.
The work is taking place from Monday to Friday between 19:30 and 05:00, until 18 February 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.
The work along this stretch is part of regular maintenance and aims to prolong the longevity of the City’s road network.
‘Yesterday, while the whole world was celebrating love and some were out treating their loved ones to romantic dinners, the City was out here showing you, our residents, love in action. We could have had these works implemented during the day but because you are at the centre of our service delivery initiatives, we have chosen to do it at night. We know that roadworks come with a level of inconvenience, more so now that most of you have started going back to the office after almost two years of working from home. Thus, we are working towards making your time on the road a pleasant one, and we try to keep the disruption to the absolute minimum,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Although there will be no road closures, traffic moving on the southbound carriageway will be affected.
‘Thus, I appeal to residents and motorists to be extra vigilant around the construction area and to keep in mind that commuting may take longer than usual. Also, where possible, please consider using alternative routes to avoid disappointments and unnecessary delays. We will not be able to complete this project without your co-operation,’ said Councillor Quintas.
Road users are urged to please:
- Be mindful of the construction workers
- Comply with the road signs
- Look out for uneven road surfaces
- Drive slow
- Park vehicles away from the construction area
Lastly, I’m appealing to residents to please be patient with us during the construction period and help us complete the works without any disruptions and within the scheduled time. I guarantee you will love the final smooth experience,’ said Councillor Quintas.
