City of Cape Town officials spent today, 18 July 2022, building two homes for vulnerable women and their families in Khayelitsha. The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, delivered the keynote address and completed brick laying work. The homes are expected to be completed on Thursday, 21 July 2022.
The City partnered with Habitat for Humanity, and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, for its #BuildForMadiba Season.
‘Making a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable across the metro by building these new homes embodies the meaning and spirit of Mandela Day.
‘There are few better tributes to the great man we are honouring today. His legacy continues to inspire us all to do more, do it better and do it for the people who most need it. Not just once a year, but every minute and every day of the year,' said Councillor Booi.
Mother and grandmother Ms Emely Mafenuka, 51, describes her new home as the best gift she could be given. For Ms Andiswa Ngqameko, 44, a mother to four children, her new home is a dream come true.
