City to link Corfu Avenue with Old Kommetjie Road

The City of Cape Town will, on 23 March 2022, start with construction work in Capri to link the informal section of Corfu Avenue with Old Kommetjie Road.

A section of Corfu Avenue is currently an informal gravel road, covering a distance of about 80m.

The City’s local Road Infrastructure Management Department will turn the gravel section into a formal road by applying an asphalt surface, and creating a sidewalk for pedestrians on the western side of the road. Line markings and stop signs will be implemented as well.

Electric cables will be relocated as part of the project.

It is anticipated that the work will be done by the end of April 2022, pending any delays and inclement weather.

Importantly, residents are advised that this section of Corfu Avenue will be closed to traffic, while the work is ongoing.

Work will take place on weekdays, from 07:30 until 17:00, and on Saturdays from 07:30 to 14:00, as and when needed.

‘The Urban Mobility Directorate undertakes work across Cape Town to improve our road network. Formalising this section of Corfu Avenue will make it easier for the local residents to get access to Old Kommetjie Road and Kommetjie Road (M65). The new sidewalk will also make it safer for pedestrians.

‘The contractor will do his best to limit dust and noise, but I want to inform residents ahead of time that the work will cause some inconvenience. We will try and complete the work as soon as possible, given that this section will be closed to traffic while we are applying the asphalt surface and constructing the sidewalk. I want to thank the surrounding community for their support and understanding. Once done, residents will greatly benefit from the work,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
