On 30 March 2022, Alderman Theresa Uys, the Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, will be at the Morning Star Community Hall in Durbanville to launch the return of the City’s basket of services. This offering was temporarily suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officials from various City departments will be deployed at the Morning Star Community Hall, in Skool Street, to assist residents with different service requests.

‘This is an extremely important service the City is providing to those residents who live in areas that are relatively far away from City offices. By bringing the service to their doorstep, residents save money they would have used on transport, and we provide them with the opportunity to ask officials for assistance. I am very proud and excited that we can now resume the service,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

The departments that will be at the hall include:

  • Human Resources for enquiries about bursaries, internships and apprenticeships
  • Social Development to find out how you can get involved
  • Finance for all enquiries about municipal accounts
  • Health to find out more about primary health care services
  • Human Settlements to give residents who qualify for housing opportunities an opportunity to  register on the City’s housing database and other housing enquiries
  • Safety and Security for information about traffic and law enforcement services
  • EPWP and jobseekers to give unemployed youth an opportunity to register on jobseekers database to make them eligible for jobs opportunities that become available in their local communities.

‘We are committed to delivering excellent basic service to all our residents. Bringing the service closer to where our residents are means that we understand that not everyone can get to our offices, for various reasons, including transport issues. We are also mindful that these are difficult times and our residents need all the help they can get. The basket of services gives them an opportunity to engage the officials on the ground about municipal issues they want to resolve.

‘I urge residents to please take advantage of this opportunity, and to bring their municipal accounts and identity documents for ease of reference. I further encourage young graduates and jobseekers who are trying to enter the job market to come and find out about our internship, learnership and Expanded Works Workers’ Programmes. This will give them an opportunity to participate in the economy while gaining experience and skills pertinent to their respective fields,’ said Alderman Uys.
