The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate commences today, 28 February 2022, with the second phase of the road rehabilitation project in Asanda, Nomzamo, and Lwandle Village. The project is anticipated to be complete by middle May 2022, if all goes as planned. Read more below:
The contractor will be establishing an on site office this week, and the actual physical work will commence on Monday, 7 March 2022.
The City is investing nearly R7 million in the second phase of this road rehabilitation project to ensure that the residential roads are rehabilitated to quality roads that are safe to use for all road users.
‘We have received very positive responses from the communities who benefited from the first phase of the project and would like to thank all the residents for cooperating so well with the teams on the ground. The City’s Roads Infrastructure Management department is satisfied with the good quality of work done on the project thus far and will ensure that this is carried through to the second phase. I have confidence that the community will cooperate with the contractor again and ask that residents please ensure that their motor vehicles and those of their visitors are not parked in the roadway as this could cause delays,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Residents and road users in the Strand area are advised that these roadworks will take place in various sections of Strand which include the following:
Asanda Village
• Mgidlana street
• Zulu Drive
• Kaleni street
• Kulu street
Nomzamo Village
• Tyawe street
• Benox street
• Lonja street
• Simon street
• Milton street
Lwandle Village
• Vulindlela street
• Koyini Street.
Road users are urged to be cautious while work is under way and to drive slower while commuting in the area. Congestion is expected, and commuters are advised to please consider alternative routes as far as possible.
