The City of Cape Town has launched its rates and tariffs calculator, which will assist residents to obtain a rough estimate of their monthly rates and tariffs. Residents may visit the City’s website to receive their estimate, which is based on numerous factors, including property size, water consumption, electricity consumption and refuse collection.

The City is proud to announce the launch of its rates and tariffs calculator, which is available on the City’s website.

The calculator is for residential properties only and serves to give an estimate of the municipal rates and tariffs payable based on the information residents provide. The amounts which are calculated do not constitute the actual municipal bill, but merely provide an estimate for information purposes.

The calculator is based on a monthly average only and residents must please continue to consult their municipal bill for their actual costs due to the City.

‘Our new rates and tariffs calculator will serve as a tool to assist residents with their monthly planning and budgeting. Tough times continue for us all with a very slow economic recovery after the two-year long national Covid-19 state of disaster, soaring fuel prices and rising inflation. The City will however continue to do its very best to assist residents where it is possible to do so.

‘Conservative rates and service charges have been proposed for the new financial year to ensure we cushion residents as much as possible, while continuing to deliver reliable services and make provision for the investment we require to make Cape Town more water, waste and energy secure in the future. Eskom’s price increases continue to have a profound impact on our costs.

‘With our draft Doing More Budget, the City proposes to do more to improve the lives of our residents. If we compare metros in South Africa, the City still has some of the lowest tariffs and rates.

‘We are pleased to see our calculator go live, after months of planning and preparation. I would like to thank the development teams who have worked tirelessly to make our vision a reality.

‘The City also reminds residents to comment on the Draft Budget until 3 May 2022. The comments will then be considered and the Draft Budget will be tabled at Council on 25 May 2022. Please remember that the new financial year starts in July. We thank residents for their continued support,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.
