On Saturday, 30 October 2021, just before 07:30, Metro Police officers arrested a 25-year-old suspect for arson in the Khayelitsha area. Officers followed up on a complaint of a house set alight in Town 2, after the homeowner was threatened by the accused. They arrested the suspect and he was detained at Harare SAPS.

On Friday, 29 October 2021, at around 16:10, members attached to the Metro Police Tactical Response Unit spotted two suspicious males loitering on the bridge near New Woodlands while conducting crime prevention patrols along the R300.

As officers stopped to investigate, the suspects ran away. Not long after, they noticed three other suspects running in the direction of Mitchell’s Plain with SAPS in hot pursuit.

Officers joined the chase, and during the pursuit, one of the suspects fell, before continuing his getaway.

The suspects were eventually caught, and during a search, officers found one of them in possession of several rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a firearm magazine on a second suspect.

Officers retraced their steps to the area where one of the suspects fell, and recovered a tablet, cellphone and a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine next to the New Woodlands railway line.

The trio, aged 20, 26 and 27, was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition and prohibited firearm. They were detained at Lentegeur SAPS.
