City and Paws-a-While give animals a barking chance

The Paws-a-while animal adoption fair held at Observatory on Sunday, 13 February 2022 once again gave cats and dogs the chance at finding a furever home. The popular event, in its fifth year, is supported by the City and creates an opportunity for residents to adopt a new family member registered with animal welfare organisations.

The Paws-a-While animal adoption fair is an exciting outdoor event promoting the adoption of animals from registered animal welfare organisations, who are members of the Cape Animal Welfare Forum (CAWF).

The fair hosted 57 stalls, which included more than 20 animal organisations such as the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Animal Welfare Society of South Africa, Animal Anti-Cruelty League as well as the City’s Law Enforcement Animal Unit.

The event included food stalls, live entertainment, pet foods stalls as well as toys and accessories, among other things. The fair even catered for a yoga class for dogs and their owners.

‘We are delighted to be part of such a great initiative, which is a fun way to adopt and learn about caring. The event is also an educational platform to inform and support the City’s Animal Keeping policy. The fair also raised much needed funds for the organisations of CAWF to enable members to participate in the annual Mass Animal Sterilisation Project. I would like to thank the organisers and residents who supported this great cause on the day for making this possible, ’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
