The Water and Sanitation Department needs to urgently replace a leaking 300mm diameter valve on the water supply main to Blackheath, Gaylee, Austinville, Greenfield and Dennemere from 20:00 on Wednesday, 15 December 2021 until 06:00 on Thursday 16 December 2021. The work involves working in close proximity to a high-voltage cable and requires that the water supply be shut off to enable the work to be done safely.
‘The Water and Sanitation Department is closing the water supply to Blackheath, Gaylee, Austinville, Greenfields and Dennemere from 20:00 on Wednesday, 15 December 2021 until 06:00 on Thursday, 16 December 2021. We are closing the water supply because our teams are working in close proximity to the high-voltage electricity cable.’
‘We consider the impact on residents and possible water losses carefully when we schedule infrastructure maintenance and repair work. I ask residents to please keep fresh water on hand during the disruption,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Member of Mayoral Committee for Water.
Residents are kindly requested to store water upfront in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period and also ensure that all taps are closed to prevent water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.
The City regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
