City advises of water supply disruption in parts of the South Peninsula

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate is currently attending to emergency repairs on its 600mm diameter water trunk main on the corner of Eighth Avenue and Strandfontein Road in Phumlani. This required the shutdown of the water supply main affecting the areas of Lotus River, Grassy Park, Retreat, Steenberg, Lavender Hill, Coniston Park, Marina da Gama, Vrygrond, Muizenberg and as far as Fish Hoek to enable the maintenance crew to do the work safely.

Another maintenance crew is also proactively using the opportunity to attend to a faulty 300mm diameter control valve on the take-off from the 600mm water trunk main at the corner of Military Road and Prince George Drive, Retreat while the main is shut off. This will eliminate a future shutdown and consequent water supply disruption to its areas of distribution.

Residents are kindly requested to keep their taps closed while the repairs are under way to prevent any water loss and/or water damage when the water supply is restored.

‘This is a most unfortunate situation as it affects a large area, but our failure to attend to this repair with urgency would have impacted the community in the immediate vicinity negatively. We therefore would like to request our consumers to bear with us while the maintenance crew is dedicating all their efforts to have the water main repaired and the water supply restored at soonest,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused during this water supply disruption, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
