The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be doing urgent repairs to a control valve on the water supply main to Hout Bay this morning, Sunday 19 September 2021. This work will necessitate the shutdown of the water supply main to ensure that the repairs can be done safely and in the shortest possible time.
This emergency work involves repairing the technical operational components of the faulty pressure reduction valve which regulates the water pressure to the area. This faulty valve has affected the water supply to the high lying areas in Hout Bay for the past few days thus necessitating the need for urgent attention.
The water supply will be shut off at 09:00 and is anticipated to be restored at 18:00.
Residents and businesses are kindly requested to store water in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period where possible.
Residents and businesses are also requested to keep their taps closed during the repairs to avoid any water wastage and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
Two water tankers will be available to provide water for domestic use during this period. One will be parked at the toilet facility of the beach parking area and the other by Kentucky on the corner of Victoria and Brighton Roads.
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure for the benefit of its consumers.
