City acknowledges youth skills development

Earlier today, the City of Cape Town’s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department in partnership with the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative(WPDI) hosted a graduation ceremony in Rylands to acknowledge youth who successfully completed  a development training programme.

The partnership with WPDI and Youth Life Counts hosted training sessions for youth residing in Subcouncils 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, and 23.

The six-day training programme was open to young people between the ages of 18 and 35, with 10 participants per ward.

Topics included career guidance, entrepreneurship, business training, conflict resolution and life skills.

The initial phase was six days of training for 210 young people. Thereafter a selected group of 54 participants completed the intermediate business training for six days. This was followed  by a boot camp and the participants presenting business plans.

Follow up life skills and computer training will be provided during the second semester (first six months of 2022).
