Freetown: The Embassy of China, in partnership with Sierra Leone's Ministry of Social Welfare, has delivered a significant food donation to the local Muslim community. This charitable gesture coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, a period defined by fasting, prayer, and heightened communal support.

According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the contribution comprises essential provisions, including 300 25-kilogram bags of rice, 30 50-kilogram bags of sugar, and 30 10-liter gallons of cooking oil. These supplies aim to assist Muslim families during their daily fasts and communal gatherings throughout the sacred month.

Chinese Ambassador H.E. Zhao Yong welcomed the Honorable Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Mohamed Haji-Kella, and his delegation to the Embassy. Discussions extended beyond the immediate humanitarian act, encompassing cultural exchange and strategies to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations. Ambassador Zhao reaffirmed his commitment to fostering collaboration and deepening the enduring friendship shared by China and Sierra Leone.

Receiving the donation, Deputy Minister Haji-Kella expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the Ministry and the Government of Sierra Leone. He commended the People's Republic of China and the newly appointed ambassador for this timely initiative, which he noted resonates deeply with the citizenry. The Deputy Minister acknowledged the nation's religious diversity, highlighting both major faiths, while emphasizing the particular significance of this support during Ramadan.
