The long arm of the law finally caught up with a murder suspect who was on the run from the police for over a year. On 21 August 2021, Chatsworth detectives attached to the Serious and Violence Crimes Unit arrested a 45-year-old suspect at a local garage after an operation was conducted to lure him to the garage. Further investigations led police to the Eshowe area in search of the second accused however the suspect had evaded police. It is alleged that on 13 July 2020, family members were at their home in the Welbedatch East area when they were approached by their neighbour who had knocked on their door. The husband was fatally shot by the neighbour when he had opened the door. The suspect then fled from the crime scene. Police established that there was a dispute over land which resulted in the fatal shooting. Investigators engaged with their informer network which resulted in the successful apprehension of a violent perpetrator. The accused will appear at the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on 30 August 2021 where police will be opposing bail as he is deemed a flight risk.
In a separate case, police arrested a 27-year-old suspect on 29 August 2021 following a murder that had occurred during the early hours of the morning in Welbedacht East.
