Oshikoto – The Oshikoto Regional Council is facing significant obstacles in delivering drought relief food to the Nehale Lyampingana constituency, as announced by Samuel Shivute, the regional council chairperson. During a regional disaster risk management committee meeting held in Omuthiya, Shivute disclosed that poor road conditions are hindering food distribution efforts.
According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), the use of 4×4 government vehicles is being considered for areas where trucks cannot reach. Additionally, he highlighted the lack of adequate storage space for relief food in the region, which has delayed delivery of essential items. The drought relief food program includes tinned fish, a 12.5kg bag of maize meal, and cooking oil for affected households. Shivute urged local councillors to collaborate with headmen in their constituencies to identify and register more households in need of assistance.
