Okahandja, Namibia - The seven-year joint venture (JV) for electricity distribution between the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) and the Okahandja Municipality has been dissolved, with operations now fully integrated into Cenored's business structure. Cenored board chairperson Kandali Iyambo announced the development on Tuesday in the presence of board members, executives, and local authority councillors.
According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Iyambo explained that moving forward, the electricity network infrastructure of Okahandja will be under Cenored's ownership, and in exchange, the Okahandja Municipality will hold a 9% share in Cenored. This marks the end of the Cenored-Okahandja JV partnership that was initiated in September 2016.
Since the inception of the JV, over N.dollars 140 million was invested in revamping Okahandja's electricity infrastructure. This development significantly expanded the electricity distribution network to serve over 25,000 residents and 15,000 households in the municipality.
Okahandja Municipality's CEO, Alfons Tjitombo, who will represent the town on Cenored's board, was encouraged to play an active role. Tjitombo noted that the municipality, established in 1952, has been distributing and connecting electricity to its residents for the past 70 years.
Cenored CEO Fessor Mbango mentioned that the Okahandja Cenored office would be managed by an area manager and staffed by 30 employees.
