CHATSWORTH – The sterling investigation conducted by detectives at the Chatsworth Police station has resulted in the incarceration of Yusuf Adam (25) who is currently serving a 15 year sentence for tampering and damaging infrastructure, Act 18 of 2015. On 30 September 2021, PRASA officials were deployed at the railway stations at Chatsworth when they noticed Adam fleeing with cables. Adam was apprehended and taken into custody by police. At the time of arrest, police seized cables as exhibits with an estimated value of R85, 000.00. Adam appeared before the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court where he was granted bail. The case was thereafter transferred to the Durban Regional Court for further prosecution. After a year of intensive investigations police were successful in securing a conviction.

May this incarceration serve as a reminder to perpetrators who are damaging and stealing infrastructure that police will intensify investigating to ensure that criminals feel the full might of the law.
