Pretoria: The Cabinet has extended its congratulations to the governments and citizens of Botswana, Mozambique, and the United States of America (USA) following the successful conclusion of their recent elections.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Cabinet commended the Umbrella for Democratic Change coalitions in Botswana for their success under the leadership of President-elect Duma Boko. The Cabinet welcomed the establishment of transitional plans between the outgoing administration and the incoming administration of President-elect Boko, as articulated by Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni during a post-Cabinet briefing.

Furthermore, the Cabinet congratulated Mozambican President-elect Daniel Chapo and his party, FRELIMO, on their electoral victory. This election was historic, as it was held 32 years after the signing of the General Peace Agreement, which ended the civil war and introduced multi-party democracy in Mozambique.

The Cabinet also extended its congratulatio
ns to President-elect Donald Trump following the US elections held on 5 November 2024. South Africa is looking forward to working closely with President-elect Trump, especially as President Cyril Ramaphosa assumes the Presidency of the G20 on 1 December 2024.

In response to inquiries about the potential impact of the US Presidential election outcome on South Africa-US relations, Minister Ntshavheni emphasized that the relationship is with the US government, regardless of the administration in place. She highlighted that the trade relationship and diplomatic engagements continue, anchored by South Africa’s participation in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the value it adds to the American economy.
