Nomthandazo Shezi (30) appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on 22 October 2021 following her arrest on Wednesday, 20 October 2021 on two counts of fraud. She was remanded in custody until 15 November 2021 for further investigation.
On 10 October 2021, a 49-year-old man went to the Ntuzuma Civil Court to seek legal advice about a site he intended to buy when a woman, who pretended to be a lawyer, approached him. She advised him to pay a deposit, as she would facilitate the sale of land and the balance was to be paid into a trust fund account.
The victim became suspicious when the promises have not materialized and the woman could not be reached. A case of fraud was registered at the KwaMashu police station for investigation. An intensive investigation led to arrest of the suspect at her home in KwaMashu. Another victim also came forward to report that the woman defrauded her using the same modus operandi.
