This request is due to a burst on the 250mm diameter water main supplying the De Novo Reservoir which supplies Bloekoembos, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein Industrial, Belmont Park, Eikendal and De Novo. The Bloekoembos Reservoir is currently supplying water to the De Novo Reservoir while the repairs are underway, but consumers are asked to delay non-essential water consumption, where possible, to minimise strain on the network.

The pipeline was shut down when a burst inside a sleeve underneath the railway line was detected. Trenching will be required to replace the damaged pipe section.

‘Every effort is currently being made to maintain supply to these consumers and their assistance in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Lower demand will help maintain the level of reservoirs which have now been put under additional strain.

‘If the water consumption increases, there may be a possibility that the high-lying areas will experience pressure drops or no water at all.

‘The City regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation during this time,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
