On Wednesday 06 April 2022, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested a suspect in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and another for bribery. At around 19:00 members followed up information from a tracking company of a stolen white Toyota Hilux next to Bunyan off ramp, N12, Benoni. Upon arrival members found the vehicle with one (01) suspect. Confirming that the vehicle was indeed reported stolen on a Krugersdorp case, members immediately placed the suspect under arrest. While detaining the suspect at Benoni SAPS, they were approached by an unknown person offering them two thousand Rand (R2000.00) for the release of the suspect. Upon handing over the cash to members, he was immediately arrested for bribery. This makes it the fifth suspect since the start of 2022 that Benoni Flying Squad members have arrested for bribery in the line of their duties. It should again go out as a stern warning to criminals and their accomplices that bribery will not be tolerated.
In further policing on Tuesday, two (02) suspects were arrested for possession of drugs at Wendon Avenue, Brakpan and Extension 2, Ivory Park. Cat (cocaine) was confiscated in the first incident and in the second, 54 foil wrapped packages of dagga with around one and a half kilograms (1.5Kg) loose dagga. The same evening a grey Toyota Fortuner was recovered abandoned at Old Pretoria Road next to Oakmore Station, reported hijacked on a Tembisa case.
Investigation continues.
The suspects aged 27 to 36 years will be appearing in the local Magistrates courts facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs, possession of stolen motor vehicle and bribery.
