Benoni Flying Squad members arrest six suspects and recover unlicensed firearms, vehicles and suspects stolen property during separate incidents

On Wednesday, 01 June 2022 members of Benoni Flying Squad arrested three suspects, aged between 34 and 42-years-old, on the N12 highway for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition, house breaking implements and suspected stolen property.

The members were reportedly out on a routine crime prevention patrol when they pulled over a taxi with six occupants. A search led the members to recover an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, a toy gun, house breaking implements and various suspected stolen property in possession of three commuters. Further investigation revealed that the firearm is positively linked to a theft case reported at Honeydew police station in 2020.

In a another incident on the same day, Benoni Flying Squad members operationalised information they obtained about the location of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The members conducted a search and further investigation confirmed that the said vehicle, a white Mazda Rustler bakkie, is positively linked to a motor vehicle theft case reported at Modimolle police station; a 50-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested.

Still on the same day, Benoni Flying Squad members followed up on information which led them to a truck stop in Pomona. The members recovered hijacked double truck trailers and arrested two suspects, aged 22 and 41-years-old.

Furthermore, the members also recovered various abandoned suspected stolen property which include, a white Big Boy motorcycle, an advertising trailer and a black Jeep.

All the arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Benoni Magistrates’s Court soon while further investigation continues.
