Beneficiaries of the Bardale People’s Housing Project 1 (PHP) have a reason to celebrate. Today, 30 May 2022, the City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate handed over 15 keys to the new homeowners. The R52 million project has delivered more than 260 formal housing opportunities to residents since 2017.

The City officially handed over 15 keys to beneficiaries in the Bardale People’s Housing Project, with more than 471 opportunities handed over to beneficiaries thus far. The project is situated in Fairdale, Blue Downs and forms part of the Fairdale Gap housing programme.

‘The Bardale PHP project, a community-driven project, has been incredibly successful in providing formal housing opportunities for the previous Bardale serviced site beneficiaries, over a number of years. The City thanks its teams and contractor, Nokhanya Services for their expertise and guidance. Together, we have helped provide these opportunities to residents.

‘The City remains committed to providing residents, including the most vulnerable, with affordable housing opportunities. This housing project will provide 503 opportunities and is situated on well-located land, close to public transport, employment opportunities and economic nodes, which is crucial.

‘The City has various housing projects at different stages, be it in the planning phase or already under construction, across the metro. The bulk of these housing projects are being developed on well-located land close to public transport, jobs, government services and public amenities. The City’s teams and contractors are working hard to ensure that opportunities are provided to residents as quickly as possible.

‘We encourage residents to visit their nearest housing office to find out more about the available opportunities, and how to apply. We remind residents to keep their details updated on the Housing Needs Register so that they can be contacted when an opportunity becomes available,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.
