Awaiting trial murder and robbery accused charged with yet another murder

A 29-year-old awaiting trial murder accused was charged for yet another murder after appearing in the New Brighton magistrate court on Tuesday, 24 August 2021, for the fatal shooting of a Port Elizabeth private security escort on 10 June 2019.

It is alleged that on 10 June 2019 at about 13:50, Denver Koll (33) was escorting a furniture delivery truck with his private vehicle, a BMW when he was shot and killed in his vehicle. While the truck was offloading furniture at a house in Dora Street, Koll’s BMW was stationary behind it. It is alleged that two males approached him and pulled out firearms and he was shot in his head. His private firearm was also taken. When the driver of the truck and his two passengers tried to run, they were held up by a group of males and pushed into a nearby drain pipe. The suspects drove off in the truck. The truck was found abandoned and empty in Jabavu Street in New Brighton.

The suspect, Usisipho Zozi is alleged to be implicated in the murder through forensic evidence. He was arrested while driving in a VW Polo in Mbekweni Street in Veeplaas on 19 February 2021. He appeared in the New Brighton magistrates’ court on Monday, 22 February 2021 and remained in custody. After his court appearance on 24 August 2021 for Koll’s murder and robbery, the investigating officer from Provincial Organised Crime Investigation in Gqeberha, D/Sgt Nigel Wright arrested and charged him for the murder of a 33 year old New Brighton man.

In this case, it is alleged that on 14 April 2019 at about 19:00, Ntsikelelo Mabusela was seated in his VW Golf when the suspect approached him and shot him multiple times. The fatal shooting was an apparent hit on Mabusela. Results of the forensic evidence received last week linked Zozi to the murder.

He will be appearing again in the New Brighton magistrate court for both cases on 12 October 2021.
