Armed robbery suspects to appear in court

On Friday, 10 September 2021 Hawks members from the Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with KwaMsane Visible Policing, Empangeni K9 Unit and Empangeni Tactical Response Team arrested six suspects aged between 29 and 39 for cash in transit robbery which happened at Gunjaneni area in Mtubatuba.

 

It is alleged that security guards were at the store for pension pay-outs. Whilst they were busy paying the people, about ten suspects fired shots at them and robbed them of their firearms before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects further hijacked a SASSA vehicle that was in the vicinity and used it as a getaway vehicle.

 

A case of cash in transit robbery, armed robbery, attempted murder, hijacking and theft was reported at KwaMsane police station. Hawks members attended the crime scene, while busy at the crime scene they received information about the suspects. They proceeded to R618 highway where they managed to apprehend the suspects and recovered firearms as well as undisclosed amount of cash.

 

They were charged accordingly and are expected to appear in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court today.
