OTJIWARONGO — An armed robbery occurred at a bar in Grootfontein during the early hours of Tuesday, where a sum of N.dollars 88 000 was stolen.
According to the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), Inspector Maureen Mbeha, head of community affairs for NamPol in the Otjozondjupa Region, informed Nampa that the incident took place between midnight and 01h00. Three unidentified individuals reportedly entered the establishment, coercing three employees and a security guard at gunpoint to comply with their demands. After forcing the employees to the ground, one assailant jumped the counter, accessed the unlocked safe, and retrieved the money.
The perpetrators also seized the security guard’s cellphone before fleeing the scene. As of now, the suspects remain at large, and no arrests have been made in relation to the robbery.
In light of this event and with the festive season nearing, Mbeha advises local business owners to avoid keeping large amounts of cash on-site to minimize the risk of theft and robbery. NamPol’s investigations into the robbery are ongoing.
