Armed robbers arrested in Pinetown

DURBAN – On Tuesday, 21 September 2021 at 07:00, the complainant was at his business office when he heard a loud bang on his door. He went to see what the noise was and found one male who suddenly pointed him with a firearm.

The suspect instructed the complainant to go into another office and lie on the floor. He then took the complainants jewelery, cellphone and car keys.

The suspect further went on to take cellphones and cash from the employee’s present. The suspects then left in the complainant’s vehicle, a Charcoal Eco Sport.

Pinetown Crime Prevention were on duty conducting patrol duties in Pinetown CBD and Westmead hotspots. They suddenly received a complaint over the radio of a business robbery that just took place in Gillits Road, Pinetown, Westmead, where a charcoal Ford Eco sport was taken.

At the time of proceeding to Gillets Road, the members received information from Tracker that the said vehicle was driving down Trotter Road. They immediately proceeded towards Totter Road and came across the vehicle with three (3) male suspects.

On seeing the SAPS members, the three suspects jumped out of the stolen vehicle and ran onto the M13.

The SAPS members gave chase and managed to apprehend two of the suspects. Unfortunately, one suspect managed to escape.

On searching the suspects, an unlicensed firearm and ammunitions was found and cellphones, complainant wallet and cash, which was taken from the business robbery. The complainant’s Ford Eco Sport was also recovered. The complainant and his employees later identified the arrested suspects.

The Acting Ethekwini District Commissioner said, “The quick team work of SAPS and Tracker, resulted in an excellent arrest and recovery by our members.  All the complainant goods, vehicle and his employee’s cellphones were recovered within minutes of the crime, and added to that, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was also recovered. Removing dangerous criminals and illegal firearms off our streets is a priority for the SAPS.”
