GQEBERHA - An armed robbery accused was sentenced on Monday, 25 July 2022, in the New Brighton Regional Court to an effective 12 years imprisonment for a robbery which took place at a day-care centre in September 2021.
On 14 September 2021, three suspects forcefully entered a day-care centre in Jakavula Street in Kwazakele by kicking open the kitchen door. The owner and his wife were gun pointed while the other suspects had knives. The suspects fled the scene with 3 cellphones, personal jewellery, cash and a laptop. No one was injured in the robbery.
As the investigation unfolded, one suspect was arrested. Lukhanyo Ndeya was sentenced yesterday to 12 years imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
