Anti-Gang Unit members arrest suspect for dealing in drugs and possession of unlicensed firearm

HOOPSTAD – Community working closely with the police in Hoopstad led to the recovery of an illegal firearm.

On Tuesday, 27 September 2022 at about 15:00, after being arrested for dealing in drugs, Anti-Gang Unit members received further intelligence led information about the 41-year-old suspect reportedly in possession of unlicensed firearm.

The suspect was taken back to his house where members continued with a search resulting in the recovery of a black plastic bag containing a 9mm pistol with live ammunition. The suspect failed to provide police with a valid licence and was again charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspect will appear in the Hoopstad Magistrate’s Court soon for dealing in drugs and possession of unlicensed firearm.
