Anti-Gang unit making strides in Manenberg as firearms seized minutes apart

Anti-Gang Unit deployed within the Manenberg Policing precinct has been highly successful with their disruptive operations and following up information that is provided.

On Wednesday, 16 March 2022 two males aged 22 and 30 were arrested in two separate incidents for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The two Anti-Gang Unit teams deployed in the area followed up information in two separate incidents within Rhone Walk, Manenberg.

In both incidents the males were standing in Rhone walk with the firearms.

SAPS members followed up the information at an address in Rhone walk where they conducted a search of the premises and found a 22-year-old male in possession of a pistol with thirteen rounds.

In the second incident, Anti-Gang Unit members received information of a suspicious male standing on the corner of Rhone Walk and Vygieskraal Road Manenberg.  As the members approached the suspect he started to run trying to evade arrest.

Anti-Gang Unit members followed the suspect on foot and cornered him. A 30-year-old male was arrested for the illegal possession of a pistol and three rounds of ammunition found in his possession.

Additional charges of prohibited firearm will be added.

Both males will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate court soon on the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition respectively.

Anti-Gang Unit members were commended for their tireless efforts and perseverance in combating gang violence within Manenberg policing precinct.
