Anti-Gang Unit Intensifies Firearm Recoveries in Western Cape

Cape town: Members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit continue to intensify efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms. On 30 October 2025 at 21:50, the members were deployed in the Manenberg area for the ongoing gang shootings. While conducting patrols, they received information about a firearm at a residence in Viva Street, Manenberg. Upon arrival, they found a 35-year-old male who led them to a .38 Special revolver and four rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

According to South African Police Service, in an unrelated matter on the same day, 30 October 2025 at 22:55, the members acted on intelligence regarding firearms at a premises at Ray Alexander Close, Tambo Village, Manenberg. They found a 44-year-old male who revealed the location of a Taurus 9mm, a Bulstorm 9mm, and a 9mm extended magazine. He was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and taken to Manenberg SAPS for further investigation and processing.

On Friday, 31 October 2025 at 19:00, members of the Anti-Gang Unit were again deployed in Manenberg for the ongoing gang shootings and to trace wanted suspects. They followed information about a wanted suspect hiding at a premises in Elbe Street, Manenberg. Upon arrival, they arrested the 21-year-old suspect, a gang member, who was found with a black 9mm short Barretta and 21 9mm rounds of ammunition.

At 20:15, members received information about another wanted suspect in Manenberg. They apprehended the suspect at a residence in Cyclone Street, Manenberg, who revealed that he had given a firearm to a female at a residence in Elsieskraal Street, Manenberg for safekeeping. The 38-year-old female was arrested for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm, a 9mm Barreta Z88, a 9mm extended magazine, and 70 9mm rounds of ammunition. Both suspects, affiliated with a local gang, were taken to Manenberg SAPS for further investigation and processing.

The suspects are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday, 03 November 2025, for their respective charges. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding communities through the continued removal of illegal firearms from circulation. He commended the members involved, stating: ‘Every firearm removed from the hands of criminals means a life potentially saved. These operations demonstrate our dedication to reducing violent crime and ensuring that communities feel safe and protected.’
