On Monday, 20 September 2021, members of the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in the Manenberg area to quell the scourge of gang violence in the area. While busy with patrols the members received information from the community about a person that is storing firearms at a premises. Upon searching the premises in Gonubie road, the members found two 9mm pistols and ammunition hidden in the house. A 19-year-old suspect was arrested and detained.
Once charged the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
