Davos: South African film producer, Anant Singh, has been appointed to the Global Arts and Culture Council (GACC). This appointment was announced during the GACC’s inaugural meeting at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
According to South African Government News Agency, the GACC was created amidst a global transition from the industrial age to a more connected and intelligent society. The arts and culture sector is expected to play a crucial role in guiding this transformation towards a unified and prosperous future. The council was launched with a group of esteemed cultural leaders dedicated to using creativity to shape this new era.
Videovision Entertainment emphasized the importance of the council’s work in a divided world, stating that artists and the creative community act as the voice of the people and the guardians of humanity’s stories. The Global Arts and Culture Council aims to ensure that the voices and expressions of artists are heard, contributing to global dialogues affecting millions.
Singh also attended a plenary session of President Cyril Ramaphosa, who addressed delegates before the upcoming G20 Summit in South Africa. The summit is seen as an opportunity to highlight South Africa’s unique attributes to the world. Additionally, Singh participated in a panel discussion titled ‘An Artist’s Path Out of Injustice,’ reflecting his commitment to using film to address issues such as apartheid, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence.
This year marks Singh’s 25th consecutive attendance at the WEF Annual Meeting, a journey that began after he received the WEF’s Crystal Award in 2001.
