The case against the 82-year-old suspect who appeared in court on a charge of alleged rape of a minor, an eight-year-old girl, who attends primary school in the area, is postponed to 22 August 2024 for the state to continue with a formal bail application. It is alleged that earlier in July, there was a school meeting which the victim attended. One of the parents told the teacher that there is a certain girl who tells others how she normally goes to the suspect's house and sleeps with him. The case was reported to the police and the suspect was apprehended. The case was referred to the Jacobsdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. He is still in custody, pending the outcome of the bail application.
