An alleged tax fraudster remanded in custody

EASTERN CAPE:  Ndumiso Clarence Mayijeza (39) was remanded in custody by Pinetown Magistrates’ court on 01 December 2021 for allegations of fraud after his arrest by East London based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team on the very same day.

 

It is alleged that during the period between 2014 and 2015 Mayijeza who is a Pinetown resident in KwaZulu Natal purported to the directors of Olana Technologies Distributors that he was an accountant. He is reported to have assisted Olana Technologies Distributors to submit their tax returns to SARS that entitled them to a rebate of more than R460 000.

 

Upon scrutinising the submitted documents, SARS discovered some discrepancies with the submissions which led to the matter being referred to the Hawks for further investigations emanating in the arrest of Mayijeza on 01 December 2021.Mayijeza made his first court appearance in Pinetown Magistrates’ court where he was denied bail to make his re-appearance on 07 December 2021. The suspect is hence remanded in custody.
